The Major Astrological Influences Of 2022

2022 promises to be a very interesting year. There will be more of the unexpected, more lessons to learn, more growth and opportunities, more dreams and ideals, and more transformational experiences. I’ll attempt to explain some of the major astrological influences of the year in the following paragraphs.

There are usually three Mercury retrograde periods every year. The following dates/times are local time in San Francisco, CA. In 2022, these Mercury retrograde periods will begin in the earth signs. The first Mercury retrograde period begins on January 14, 2022. The next Mercury retrograde period begins May 10, 2022, and the one after that begins September 9, 2022. In addition, 2022 will end with Mercury in (apparent) retrograde motion. That Mercury retrograde period begins on December 29, 2022. These periods are generally marked by miscommunications, misunderstandings, problems with communications equipment, travel delays, and plans that will later need to be revised or completely changed. It’s usually better not to make important decisions or to sign contracts (or anything else) if that is possible during these periods. Complications and problems are too easy to encounter, and often we don’t have all the information that we need. The best thing to do is to continue to collect this information throughout the period. How these periods will affect you personally depends on where it happens in your astrological chart(s).

In 2022, we begin the year with Venus retrograde (in Capricorn). That retrograde period began on December 19, 2021. Venus turns stationary direct on January 19, 2022. Relationships will go through a period of review with Venus in (apparent) retrograde. Has an ex re-entered your life? It might happen, but only you can decide whether that’s a good thing or not.

In 2022, Mars will turn stationary retrograde on October 30, and does not turn direct till the second week of 2023. Be careful regarding the actions that you take during this period. Things might very well not work out as planned, and some actions could result in a backfire.

There will be eclipses in April, May, October, and November of 2022. They occur in Taurus and Scorpio. If you’d like to know if an eclipse will affect you personally, ask me. Most people will experience these eclipses as either a Full Moon or a New Moon.

Saturn will continue its transit through Aquarius. Saturn entered Aquarius last year on December 16, 2020. Saturn will affect Astrology, friendships, groups, humanitarian efforts, and the high tech. This transit will affect you personally depending on where Saturn is transiting in your astrological chart(s) (its house placement and if it aspects any of your natal planets or points). Transiting Saturn will square (but, not exact) transiting Uranus (in Taurus) off and on - especially from September through the first part of November. We may vacillate between wanting change and wanting to move forward quickly and/or to move more slowly (or, even stand still) valuing the status quo then. There seems to be a conflict between progressive and more conservative (but moderate) values. Saturn leaves Aquarius and enters Pisces early in March of 2023.

Uranus, the planet of change and the unexpected, will continue to transit financially conscious Taurus in 2021. Transiting Uranus will transit Taurus till July of 2025. Transiting Uranus could affect the high technology industry, astrology/astrologers, civil rights issues, and other humanitarian interests. Transiting Taurus, it could affect the banking industry, investments,  and finances. It is likely to affect the stock market as well. We might come up with new ways to make money and/or we may change the way we think about money and other possessions. Some astrologers have indicated that this transit could cause more earthquakes to occur. My own view is that this transit alone will not be the cause of more earthquakes (should we actually experience more).

Jupiter will be transiting the sign of Pisces for much of 2022. Jupiter entered Pisces on December 28, 2020 last year. During this period, the oil industry, the motion picture industry,  the fishing and boating industries, and matters concerning the oceans and seas will be favored. We may also experience larger storms - hurricanes and typhoons.

Jupiter will enter the sign of Aries in early May, 2022, and will stay there till very late October, 2022. The military and policing are favored during this period. Sporting industries also encounter very favorable influences. Jupiter re-enters Pisces in late October and stays until late December (and, Jupiter will re-enter Aries).

Neptune will continue its transit through its home sign of Pisces in 2020. The oil and gas industries will be impacted by this transit. Neptune also rules the motion picture industry (and photography) and the shipping industry.

Pluto will continue to transit the sign of Capricorn in 2020. The areas related to Capricorn are due for transformation. It could influence the large multinational corporations, the leather and hide industries, and the iron and steel industries. Pluto’s effects are subtle sometimes, tend to happen over a lengthy period of time, and are very powerful. The United States will have entered its Pluto return period  this year. Power structures will begin to break down and will be eventually replaced by (hopefully) something better.

December 3/4 Total Solar Eclipse In Sagittarius

Our final eclipse of 2021 will be a  solar eclipse on December 4, and it occurs at 12 degrees and 22 minutes Sagittarius. The total phase of this total solar eclipse can only be seen in Antartica. However, part of Southern Africa, including locations in South Africa and Namibia, will see a partial solar eclipse, if the weather permits. Parts of southern Australia and southern parts of South America will also see at least a partial solar eclipse. This eclipse could affect the airline industry, the legal industry and profession, religious organizations, and higher education. The lord of this eclipse is Mercury (since it is so close to the eclipse point), therefore communications, short distance travel, and the media are very important matters related to this eclipse. There is great potential for confusion and/or deception with this eclipse as Mercury squares Neptune. Be wary of what you hear.

For the USA, the focus is on finances - probably next year’s budget and the human infrastructure bill. With Mars squaring Jupiter in the chart over Washington DC, there is the likelihood of excessive expectations with regard to financial affairs, Inflation could be a part of the problem and scenario. However, with Mars in trine aspect to Neptune, there is still the potential for great progress toward an ideal. With Neptune in the fifth house, matters related to children are favored and should move forward. Love is in the air with Mars sextiling Venus (and Pluto). It looks like some very pleasant events could occur on the home front as Venus is conjunct the IC in the chart. Power and intensity are a part of the happenings as Pluto joins Venus there. However, the push/pull effects of the 2021 Saturn/Uranus square continue to plague us (at least a bit). Saturn (in Aquarius) is sextiling the eclipse point, so hard work and thinking outside the box will help greatly.

As always, this eclipse will affect you personally if you have planets and/or points conjunct or opposite the eclipse point (only a two degree orb). Those planets or points between 10 and 14 degrees of Sagittarius and/or Gemini are included. Eclipses are Uranian in nature in that what happens is unexpected, and you might not even be certain as to what is happening for six months. For a solar eclipse, it takes about a year for the event to completely mature. Whether the eclipse is experienced as positive or negative depends on the planet that is conjoined or opposed, it’s place in your chart, the condition that the planet is in, and whether and how you might have prepared for what is happening (i.e. free will). If you’d like to know if you have planets or points that fall into this range, let me know. For most people, it will be experienced simply as a New Moon type event. Those are generally felt as the start of something new or a new beginning.

November 19, 2021 Partial Lunar Eclipse In Taurus

Our last lunar eclipse of the year is a partial lunar eclipse, and it occurs on November 18, 2021 at 27 degrees Taurus. Much of Europe, Asia, Australia, North/West Africa, South America, North America, Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and the Arctic will see at least some part of the eclipse. You will be affected by this eclipse if you have planets or points between 24 and 30 degrees of Taurus and/or Scorpio. Most folks will simply experience the eclipse as a full Moon. Full Moons usually indicate a climax or coming to fruition of something, and we are normally more emotional during a full Moon. The emphasis is on banking, finances, and earth changes. Our collective values are important and related to this eclipse.

The lunar eclipse in Taurus will affect the banking industry, other financial institutions, the stock market, and real estate (to some extent). Transiting Mars in opposition to transiting Uranus would tend to indicate sudden and abrupt changes regarding monetary issues. Spiritual issues and matters at sea are favored as transiting Mars, the Sun, and Mercury trine transiting Neptune.

For the US, the eclipse falls in the eighth house in the eclipse chart over Washington DC. It could affect the banking industry, the stock market, and industries related to death and taxes. The IRS might be prominent. Building and infrastructure are favored as the eclipse trines transiting Pluto in Capricorn. The automobile and transportation industries should fare quite well with Mars and Uranus favorably aspecting Venus in the third house. Coronavirus issues will continue to be prominent with Asteroid Koronis in the tenth house in this chart.

This eclipse occurs in opposition to President Biden’s natal Sun. It’s a time of transformation and change in his life. The months ahead will be quite significant for him (and the nation as a result).

June 10, 2021 Solar Eclipse In Gemini

Our second eclipse of 2021 will be a  solar eclipse on June 10, and it occurs at 19 degrees and 47 minutes Gemini. The annular phase of this eclipse will be visible in parts of Russia, Greenland, and northern Canada. A partial eclipse can be seen in Northern Asia, Europe, and the United States. You can see the path of the eclipse shadow here. Since this eclipse occurs in chatty and sociable Gemini, this eclipse could affect the automobile industry, the media, and elementary and secondary education. The lord of the eclipse is Mercury which is in apparent retrograde motion. So, communications and the media are strongly influenced. However, there are likely to be problems - miscommunications, misunderstandings, fuzzy thinking, and perhaps even deceit. But, much can be resolved with hard work as Saturn trines the eclipse point.

For the US, it looks like much of the action will occur behind the scenes. The executive will definitely be involved because Neptune is located in the tenth and squares the eclipse point. The media might not know just how to communicate what is up and going on in Washington and with the President. It could be that they do not understand or know, or it could be that they just don’t know how to correctly describe certain events. Don’t believe everything you hear. Check out sources. With the Saturn trine to the eclipse point, my mind automatically goes to the new Ford F-150 (electric vehicle). The infrastructure bill and plans will be a part of the US scenario. It is not totally clear as to how some of the issues (such as how much money to spend on infrastructure) related to the infrastructure bill will be resolved. With Mars in the second in trine aspect to Neptune (in the tenth), it looks like President Biden will get the resources/funding that he is seeking. But, it will not happen without a fight as Pluto (in the eighth) opposes Mars. The Jupiter trine to Venus is reflective of the celebratory mood that many Americans will be in as the nation opens back up (and even more people are vaccinated). Jupiter in the ninth indicates that there will be optimism abroad as well. The airline industry should benefit from this placement of Jupiter. The oil and gas industry could suffer as a result of the Neptune square to the eclipse point, however.

As always, this eclipse will affect you personally if you have planets and/or points conjunct or opposite the eclipse point (only a two degree orb). Those planets or points between 17 degrees and 21 degrees of Sagittarius or Gemini are included.

May 26, 2021 Super Moon Lunar Eclipse In Sagittarius

Late May begins the next eclipse season of 2021. The first eclipse, a lunar eclipse, occurs on May 26, 2021 at 5 degrees Sagittarius. If in Australia, parts of the western USA, western South America, or South-East Asia, you will see a Super Full Moon totally eclipsed for about fourteen minutes, weather permitting. You will be affected by this eclipse if you have planets or points between 3 and 7 degrees of Gemini and/or Sagittarius. Most folks will simply experience the eclipse as a full Moon. Full Moons usually indicate a climax or coming to fruition of something, and we are normally more emotional during a full Moon. The emphasis is on higher education, long-distance travel, the law, and foreign cultures.

The lunar eclipse in Sagittarius will affect the legal/law industry, institutions of higher learning, and the airline industry. Transiting Mars in opposition to transiting Pluto indicates that we will likely have more problems related to the coronavirus worldwide. The enormous crisis affecting India currently could begin to influence other nations in the region. The same might be said for Brazil as well. Nevertheless, transiting Neptune trining transiting Mars and sextiling transiting Pluto tends to suggest that some countries will continue to benefit from the coronavirus vaccines.

For the US, the eclipse falls in the sixth house in the eclipse chart over Washington DC. It could affect the healthcare industry, the labor force, and the way we continue to live our daily lives. Changes are coming and it looks fairly positive and hopeful, however we may have a problem with exaggerated expectations with transiting Jupiter squaring the eclipse point (and the Sun in Gemini). Saturn and Uranus continue their square aspect suggesting the same push/pull effect that we’ve been experiencing - especially with regard to political issues (Saturn in the ninth house). Democrats want to race forward with a progressive agenda as the GOP wants to continue to put up roadblocks. The Mars/Pluto opposition points to power struggles with regard to finances and budgetary issues. Biden’s infrastructure proposal/bill may face some challenges. The opposition also points to the potential for more gun violence. This problem is not likely to go away without some sort of action or gun control legislation. Mercury on the Ascendant points to quite a bit of news coming forward. Much of it should sound pretty good with Venus in conjunction, but it might not all be accurate with Neptune in square aspect.

This eclipse occurs in conjunction to President Biden’s Ascendant. Both he and Vice-President Harris will continue to want to go BIG with regard to their proposals and plans for the nation.

India's Coronavirus Crisis And A Powerful Eclipse

India has been in the midst of a serious and tragic coronavirus crisis for a while, and it seems to continue relentlessly. The nation’s healthcare system is overwhelmed and buckling under, and the death toll is enormous and tragic and getting worse.

India was actually doing quite well as the new year began, while the USA and other countries were being ravaged by COViD-19. Some of India’s higher government officials were pretty much declaring the pandemic over in India. And, then the new cases numbers started to rise later in March of 2021 (around March 20). At about that time, the Sun began to stimulate the June 21, 2020 eclipse point by square aspect. Cases began to increase dramatically. And, then as transiting Mars was about to enter Cancer (about April 15) and conjoin that eclipse point, the crisis became even worse. The healthcare system began to collapse, there was a shortage of healthcare and especially oxygen to care for patients, and the death toll skyrocketed, And, it continues today.

If you would like to help India in the midst of this crisis, this New York Times article will give you ideas and ways that you can donate and/or help.

The Atlanta Spa Shootings And The Eclipses

On March 16, 2021, mass shootings took place at three different spas in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Eight people were killed, and six of the eight people were Asian Americans. The suspect is a 21 year old man who claims to have a sexual addiction which goes against his religion. Man if not most believe this mass shooting to be a hate crime. Asian Americans have experienced an increase in hate crimes since former President Trump began calling the coronavirus the “China virus.”

At the time of the shootings, there was one major eclipse being stimulated - transiting Mars was conjunct the November 30, 2020 lunar eclipse point in Gemini. And, another eclipse had been stimulated but was about to go out of orb - the Sun was squaring the December 14, 2020 solar eclipse point in Sagittarius. Just click on the previous hyperlinks to view my blog posts for each eclipse along with the eclipse chart over Washington DC.

In the November 30, 2020 lunar eclipse chart, Mars (in Aries) is squaring Pluto (and Jupiter). These two planets in square aspect symbolize the violent nature of the crime and also have a sexual connotation. The Moon is the ruler of the ninth house (foreign cultures) in the eclipse chart over Washington DC, and is located in the eighth house of death. Interestingly, Asteroid Vesta squares the eclipse point from the tenth house. This asteroid can sometimes symbolize tantric sex and passion for ritual. Vesta is also a workaholic and is sometimes celebate. Venus is on the Ascendant in sexual Scorpio with Uranus in opposition indicating the unexpected. Interestingly, Mars is at 7 Pisces in the city chart for Atlanta and squaring the eclipse point and transiting Mars. Mars squares Vesta in this chart as well.

In the December 14, 2020 solar eclipse chart, we find Mars squaring Pluto again. Venus rules the eighth house in the chart over Washington DC and is located in the ninth house of foreign cultures.

An Insurrection, Certifying The Electoral College Vote, And The Eclipses

Yesterday (January 6, 2021) a pro Trump mob stormed the Capitol Building as a joint session of Congress was in progress to certify the Electoral College vote count. Violence and mayhem ensued, and some members of Congress were moved to safe spaces as others scrambled to couch under desks and shelter themselves. The event is being (rightly) described as acts of sedition and an insurrection.

Many Astrologers are pointing to transiting Mars at the anaretic degree in Aries and approaching transiting Uranus. I agree with that, however I believe that there is more to it astrologically.

There are a couple of eclipses that I would like to discuss. The first one (eclipse point) had been stimulated by the Sun - the January 5, 2019 Solar Eclipse in Capricorn. In my write up of that eclipse I stated:

For the US, this eclipse will affect the President of the nation as it is in opposition to the Sun in the chart of the United States. It is highly likely that justice will prevail with this eclipse, because Saturn always requires what is deserved. And, even if what is deserved is something very good or positive, it usually takes a while for that to manifest. There is an element of permanence or of the final outcome of something. As is always the case, it might not occur along with the eclipse. It might be when one of the inner planets stimulates the eclipse.

Mercury squares Mars in the chart. So, it looks like there will be talk of war and rumours of war and conflict. Jupiter is in a square aspect to Neptune. Many will be tempted to take big and major risks, but there is great potential for loss here.

In addition, transiting Mars and Saturn had been stimulating the Lunar Eclipse (point) of January 20, 2019. In my blog post of that eclipse I stated:

Transiting Uranus in square aspect indicates a time of instability and of sudden surprising and difficult events involving various world leaders. Transiting Mars square transiting Saturn and Pluto connotes power plays, power struggles, and possibly violence.

For the US, the eclipse falls in the tenth house in the eclipse chart over Washington DC and conjunct the MC. The President and the Executive Branch figure prominently. Transiting Uranus squares the eclipse point from the seventh house, so sudden, surprising, and difficult events are likely to occur involving the President with this eclipse.

These eclipses pretty much describe what has happened and is still happening as of this writing. We’ve had the mob and the violence (four people died). And, then there was the finality of the certification of the Electoral vote count in Congress even though Trump refuses to accept the results. In addition, there are calls for Pence and cabinet members to execute the 25th Amendment to remove Trump and/or another impeachment proceeding in Congress.
